U19 Nationals Selections

2016 U19 National Championships - Copper Mt, Co. Feb 27 - Mar 4

RC Selections will be as follows:

  1. Automatics – Using the National NorAm Automatic* rules for both men and women. Automatics will fill the regional quota spots first. Automatics will not be purged from the final head to head standings. * You can find the NorAm Automatic rules for both men and women above in the US Nationals Selections.
  2. The RC regional selection, consisting of a maximum of 10 Men and 9 women**, will be filled by using a standard double board selection method. The board has two sides. The first side is a ranking using World Cup Points for results earned in head to head competition. There will be two series of races: 2DH/2SG/2GS in RMD and 3SL in Central. The results will be purged of all non-Rocky/Central competitors. The second part of the board is based on USSA points from the list valid on the selection date. A column is established for each event on each part of the board. The column will be listed in the order DH, SL, GS and SG; which will be the order of selection. The Rocky/Central Ski Cup portion of the board will be first, followed by the USSA point’s portion of the board.  **Should more than 8 men and 7 women qualify through the NorAm Automatics selection criteria, the overall Regional H2H series quota will be expanded to ensure a minimum of two quota spots are available for the Regional H2H series. These quota spots would come out of the discretionary quota.
  3. After the NorAm Automatics and regional selections are made, the remaining quota spots will be divided between the two divisions (up to 4 Men and 3 Women per division).**  The divisional quota spots will be protected unless more than 12 boys or 11 girls qualify via the National NorAm Automatic Rule. In the event divisional quota spots are used for NorAm Automatics exceeding 12 boys or 11 girls, and the remaining divisional quota spots will be divided between the Rocky and Central Divisions.  If there is an odd number remaining, the one spot will go to RC Regional staff for discretion selection RC Selections will be finalized approximately two to three days after the final Rocky/Central Ski Cup race
  4. Discretionary spots awarded to 2 men and 2 women to be decided by Rocky/Central Director, Rocky/Central Coach, RMD Manager and Central Manager.

Explanation of Selection Procedure

All races contested per event will be used in calculating each racers World Cup points in that event. If a tie remains after all results have been considered, a racer who started the series with higher seed points will be ranked in front of racers who started the series with lower seed points in the event. Placing the racer with the best ranking on the New World Cup point board first breaks a tie on the seed point board.

Selection proceeds from left to right on each row starting with World Cup points and ending with seed points. When a racer who has already been picked is encountered in a column, the column is skipped and selection continues with the next column in the same row. When the last column in a row is reached, selection continues with the first column in the next row.  Only events scheduled in the Championship Event will be part of the selection board..

For example, consider the following selection board:

New World Cup Point Board      USSA Seed Point Board

DH SL GS  SG                                DH SL  GS  SG
A    B    E     D                                  A    X    D    C
G    D    Q    E                                  F    E    X     Z
R    Z     D    Q                                 Z    M    Q    D
T    Q     B    M                                 T    D    C    Q

Selection for a 12 person, four-event team would be: (without taking Nor Am Automatics into consideration)
A, B, E, D, X, C, G, Q, F, Z, R, M

This selection will be completed before the Central Divisional selection is made (see below).

The Central Division quota - 4 men and 3 women based on the following criteria.

Throughout the Mid America Series, U19's will accumulate U19 MidAm Cup points (this list will be specific to JUST Central U19's) based on their finishes.

U19 Cup points rank will be compiled by the following method: (total # of Mid Am SL’s divided by 2, plus 1) + (total # of Mid Am GS’s divided by 2, plus 1) Note, no rounding up for numbers with decimals. For example, if there were 6 slaloms and 4 giant slaloms in the Mid Am schedule, then the athlete’s best 4 slalom and best 3 giant slalom results would count towards the U19 Cup Rankings. (Because of weather Central will use the 2 RC U19 qualifying GS races at Vail along with Lutsen 2GS in January for the 2015-16 season for the best 3 of 4 GS U19 cup rankings)

Another ranking list based on USSA GS and SL rank will be generated. This list will be created by adding together the ranks for SL and GS purged to include Central U19’s with FIS licenses only, to create a list that ranks athletes from those with the lowest combined rank first to the athlete with the highest combined rank last.  In the case of a tie, the athlete’s single lowest individual rank will be used, then the second lowest. If needed, lowest USSA points in SL or GS will break the tie.

After athletes have been ranked based on U19 MidAm Cup points earned (GS and SL points combined) and U19 Central USSA rank (GS and SL rank combined) the ITS method will be used to select Central’s 4 men and 3 women to this event. The First column will have the U19 Mid Am Cup combined rank and 2nd column will have the combined USSA rank.

Rocky/Central U16 Region Junior Championship Selections

The Central Division rankings/selections for the Rocky/Central U16 Jr Championships will be posted below.

2016 RC U16 JC at Vail, CO March 12-17

2015-16 Central Division qualify criteria for the RC U16 Championships

Athletes that are invited to and attend the NTG or RC in-season European project will be automatics to the RC U16 Regional Junior Championships.
Automatics will be included in the overall divisional quota.  Automatic athletes will be named in the divisional quota before the 2 Central Regional series quotas are divided based on population.
Automatics will not be counted in the in the Central Region's population for quota (Q) determination.

The Central Division will hold 2 qualifying series. As approved at the 2014 Fall CASC meetings: Region 1 (R1) will have a qualifying series and Region 2,3,4 (R234) will have a qualifying series for selections to the Rocky/Central Junior Championships (RCJC). Thus the division will have 2 qualifying series in the Division – (R1, R234). The series should be held over at least 2 weekends (2 3 day weekends preferred).  Each series will host 2 SG, 2 GS and 2 SL USSA scored races. USSA points will seed athletes. Athletes will be selected for the RC Regional Championships by using the best three of six U16 results from 2SG/2GS/2SL races (only one of the SG’s may count).  Rankings per race will be determined by using World Cup points (top 30) in each USSA scored race. Using the single best result will break ties. If a tie still exists, the next best result would be used, and this process will continue until the tie is broken.

USSA members holding an X (foreign) license that are living & attending school in the USA and training and competing in the central division may qualify for the R/C championships within the quotas. Central will then have an additional 4 quota spots total (men & women) for the qualified X licensees. These X athletes are now eligible for the U16 National Championships within the RC quota.

Eligible athletes must be full time members of the Central Division and their local Central Region by the January 31 registration deadline to compete and qualify at events. The full time memberships and #’s are to be reported to the Central Manager who will share with the CASC executive committee Feb 1 for quota allocations to the 2 series.

Each series will hold 2 discretion spots per gender. The central coaches committee will consider discretion requests and will rule on those ASAP following the final series race. If there are no requests then the 2 discetion spots will move down the list to the next ranked athletes.

See the Region 1 website for details on that series:

The Region 234 (R234) series will comprise of the Shelly Glover weekend (Jan 15-17) and the Hosking Jr Championships Feb 19-21. Each 3 day weekend will hold a SG, GS and SL scored race for U16 qualifiing. One run of slalom will also be held in conjunction with the SG race to score Alpine Combined awards at the Hosking. However, only the SG portion of the Alpine Combined may count for RC U16 qualifying.

UPDATE: The postponed Glover SG will added to the Hosking R234 JR Championship so the Hosking will now have 2 SG races. Fact sheet posted on the Central calendar page
