PARK CITY, UT (Jan. 28) – As a part of its initiative to increase educational opportunities for elite athletes, the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) and Westminster College have announced an extension to a partnership that has provided college education to over 100 national team athletes since 2005. A total of 23 student athletes – nearly a fourth of those nominated by the USSA for the 2014 Olympics – have attended Westminster in Salt Lake City while training at the USSA’s Center of Excellence in nearby Park City.
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and Westminster College in Salt Lake City have extended an educational partnership to provide college education to national team athletes training at its USSA Center of Excellence in Park City.
The strategic partnership, which began in 2005, has helped over 100 national athletes combine elite level training with college education.
A total of 23 Westminster College student athletes – nearly a fourth of the 94 athletes nominated by the USSA – will be competing in Sochi in February.
The partnership provides tuition remission to qualifying USSA athletes.

QUOTES Bill Marolt, President and CEO, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association Our partnership with Westminster College has made a difference for skiers and snowboarders athletically by providing a flexible opportunity to train at the Center of Excellence while studying nearby at Westminster. Extending this partnership sends a message to our elite athletes of the value of combining education and athletics. Westminster is a vital part of our athletic family and has had a profound impact on the student athletes going to Russia.
Dr. Brian Levin-Stankevich, President, Westminster College Our USSA students excel in the classroom just as they do on the slopes, with an average G.P.A of 3.56. Faculty and staff understand the dedication it takes to compete at this level and work closely with these students to help them achieve their goals.
Taylor Fletcher, Nordic Combined Having the opportunity to attend Westminster College allows me to take my mind off of skiing and train a different side of the brain for a while. When I come to skiing, I’m much more relaxed, much more focused, and I’m a little bit sharper with my everyday thoughts.
Jessica Jerome, Ski Jumping My dad was always very adamant that I could make ski jumping a priority, but I didn’t have to sacrifice my education completely. I love that when I do decide to quit skiing, I’m not going to have to start from nothing.
