INNSBRUCK, Austria (Jan. 14) - Ski & Snowboard Club Vail alpine athlete Alex Leever (Vail, CO) kicked off the first ever Winter Youth Olympics with 16th in super G, the first of four individual alpine events. Leever had a solid run going before a small mistake above the first interval bounced him wide. The same roll caused problems for women's starter Julia Mueller-Ristine (Aspen, CO) of the Aspen Ski and Snowboard Club, who did not finish the race.
Moracco's Adam Lamhamedi won the men's race with France's Estelle Alphand, daugther of legendary skier Luc Alphand, claiming victory in the women's event.
Both Leever and Mueller-Ristine will race super combined on Sunday.
