Skiing History Week Comes to Park City

PARK CITY, UT (March 6) – Capping off its 50th anniversary season-long celebration, Park City Mountain Resort will play host this spring to Skiing History Week March 31-April 6. The annual celebration of the sport’s diverse history, ‘Treasuring 50 years of Snow, Fun and Memories,’ coincides with the national induction for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in Park City on Saturday, April 5. The weeklong celebration features awards ceremonies and presentations documenting the history of the sport. Classic ski films will be featured at the Ishpeming International Ski Film Festival at the Prospector Square Theater, open free to the public. HIGHLIGHTS
  • Utah’s Park City Mountain Resort will play host to the annual Skiing History Week March 31-April 6, capping off a season-long celebration of the resort’s 50th anniversary along with the 40th anniversary of the U.S. Ski Team in Park City.
  • The annual national event coincides with the Saturday, April 5 induction ceremony for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame at the Newpark Center in Park City. Six highly acclaimed athletes and sport builders will be inducted that evening into the Hall of Fame.
  • Treasure Mountain, now Park City Mountain Resort, first opened for the 1963-64 season.
  • The week of activities at Skiing History Week will reminisce at some of the great moments in Park City’s history from the legendary 1974 Beconta Cup freestyle event to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
  • The event will also mark the 40th season since the U.S. Ski Team opened a training center in old mine buildings at the resort, starting a long time residency that has led to the development of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s Center of Excellence.
  • Skiing History Week and the Hall of Fame induction are a joint production of the International Ski History Association (ISHA) and U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.
  • The event will also showcase a series of classic ski films at the fourth annual Ishpeming International Film Festival, open free to the public at the Prospector Square Theater.
  • The 21st annual ISHA Awards Banquet will honor notable skiing history books and films.
  • Tickets and tables are also available for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame induction Saturday, April 5. Inductees will include freestyle pioneer John Clendinin, Olympic moguls medalist Toby Dawson, Olympic aerials athlete and ski industry entrepreneur Kris “Fuzz” Fedderson, filmmaker Joe Jay Jalbert, big mountain skier Scot Schmidt, and ski show pioneer Jerry Simon.
