Olympic and World Champion Ted Ligety hammering a slalom gate during preseason training in New Zealand (Ted Ligety)
CORONET PEAK, New Zealand (Aug. 7) - Olympic and World Champion Ted Ligety (Park City, UT), five-time Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller (Franconia, NH) and the men's technical team have now logged about a week on snow in New Zealand to open the first part of the on-snow prep period. It is the first time MIller has run gates since late in the 2012 season. He missed all of 2013 while recovering from a knee injury. With early sessions at Round Hill, the camp has now shifted to Coronet Peak with daily sessions of both giant slalom and slalom. While in town, the team will race in a number of FIS Continental Cup events in addition to the Audi Quattro Winter Games giant slalom and slalom races. The Audi FIS Alpine World Cup opens Oct. 26-27 in Soelden, Austria, the official European Training Base of the U.S. Ski Team. North American racing will take place at Nov. 29-Dec. 8 in Beaver Creek, CO with women's and men's World Cup action at the home of the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.
