Advancement through the USSA's Athlete Development Pipeline is based on tangible, objective selection criteria. At each level, from grassroots club-level events to Olympics, athletes advance based on athletic performance in events as well as on ranking or points lists. Selection criteria for different events, teams or projects may be different. Athletes, coaches and parents should read the criteria carefully to learn exactly how athletes will be selected. In some cases it may be results from specific events. In other cases it may be an athletes ranking on a USSA or International Ski Federation (FIS) points or ranking list. Most athletes are selected by specific objective criteria, but there may also be discretionary selection if noted in the criteria. Click on the tabs above to access selection criteria for specific teams or development projects.

U.S. Freestyle Ski Team

Each year, the top athletes in America are nominated to compete as a part of the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team. Nominations include those active athletes who qualified based on published selection criteria in the prior season. The U.S. Freestyle Ski Team announces official team rosters in the fall, naming those athletes who accept the responsibilities of being a part of the team and are planning to compete in the 2016-2017 season.

Every athlete named to the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team will receive a high level of world class program support, with access to athletic benefits including an elite coaching, sport science, sports medicine and high performance staff, access to the USSA Center of Excellence, and education opportunities.
