Former Austrian World Cup racer (and national giant slalom champion) Alex Hoedlmoser was born in Salzburg and spent eight years with the Austrian national team, ending in 1992. After another four years as a pro racer, he also was a coach and waxing technician with the Austrian women's team before joining the U.S. coaching staff following the 1997 season. He spent his first year as Europa Cup coach before becoming assistant World Cup downhill and super G coach with the '98 Olympic season. In 2004 he was promoted to speed Head Coach and remained in that role until the 2011 season when he was promoted to women's Head Coach. He has been named USSA Alpine International Coach of the Year multiple times twice and lives in St. Johan, Austria.
