Excelling at everything from lacrosse to soccer and golf, young gun Maddy Schaffrick's life revolves around sports. So it’s only natural that she fights her way onto the podium nearly everywhere she goes. The young halfpipe athlete’s 2010 season landed her in the top 10 in each of the five Grand Prix Olympic qualifications and seventh in the overall rankings, putting her just three spots from making the Olympic team at age 16.

Unfortunately, that momentum was put on hold for 2011 due to injury, but she picked things back up in 2012 with a second place finish at the Sprint U.S. Grand Prix at Copper Mountain and a fourth at the Breckenridge Dew Tour stop. Those results earned her an invite to X Games Aspen, but unfortunately a knee injury ended her 2012 season early. On the plus side, her injury allowed her to graduate from high school early.

Back on snow and feeling good in 2013, Schaffrick took third at her first competition back, the Dew Tour at Breckenridge. She was able to ride strong, put down solid runs and stay injury free for the rest of the season. She continued to charge the halfpipe in 2014 with impressive inverted 720s and stylish backside airs, which put her as high as sixth at the Mammoth Grand Prix. Keep a lookout for this rising star as she continues to make waves in the 2015 season.

FIRST TRACKS
Schaffrick’s parents taught her how to ski at Steamboat Springs when she was three years old. She says, “When I was six, I first discovered snowboarding by watching the X Games on TV. I started snowboarding the next season and haven't looked back.”

OFF THE SNOW
When she’s not on the snow, you can find her hanging out with her friends, hiking, golfing or just enjoying nature.
