BIOGRAPHY:
Johnny Spillane re-wrote the history books for his sport in 2010, becoming the first American to earn a nordic combined silver medal at the Olympics. He went on to collect three total silvers at the 2010 Games, thanks to his performances in the large, normal, and team events. Naturally, Spillane hails from a town of Olympians, growing up just two blocks from Steamboat's Howelsen Hill and falling in love with ski jumping at a young age. He was part of a Junior World Championships gold-medal team and in addition to becoming the first American nordic skier to win a gold medal at the Olympics, he was also the first to win gold at the World Championships in 2003 with the world sprint title.

JOHNNY SAYS:
In 2011, I focused on World Championships in Oslo. 2010 was a great season for me. My goal was one individual medal and one team medal in Vancouver and I was able to take three silvers. Winning Olympic medals is very special and something that I will never forget.

FIRST TRACKS:
Growing up so close to the jumps at Howelsen Hill, Spillane thought jumping was the coolest thing and wanted to try it as soon as he could. He started skiing at two, but he didn't get serious about jumping until about 11. And it still took him another two years before he got "real" jumping skis. "I just jumped on alpine skis for a long time. I finally started using jumping skis when I was about 13." He skied the second leg—and took the lead for good—for the gold-medal foursome at the 1999 World Junior Championships in Austria and also was part of the silver-medal unit a year later at JWCs in Slovakia.

OFF THE SNOW:
Off the snow my favorite things are fly fishing and hunting. I love spending time outdoors and I get out every chance I get! My new favorite passion is spending time with my baby daughter Hadley.
