Level 100 Alpine Clinics

This course is designed to be the first step in the formal education process for alpine ski coaches, covering the fundamentals of alpine skiing at the core, while also introducing the topics of pedagogy, coaching ethics, planning, alpine competition rules, and the Alpine Training System and long-term athlete development. The course is held over two days, with a skiing and classroom component. It is recommended that coaches take this course before or within their first year of coaching, but the content presented is of value for a coach with several years of experience as well.

At the conclusion of the course, the participants will have the skills to be able to

  • Understand the concepts of the U.S. Ski Team alpine skiing fundamentals
  • Lead, manage and inspire a group of athletes
  • Accurately demonstrate the alpine skiing fundamentals drills
  • Create yearly and daily lesson plans and drill progressions
  • Understand the U.S. Ski Team philosophy and principles of athlete and coach development
  • Exhibit a passon and love for skiing

PRICE: $160 (USSA MEMBERS), $200 (NON-USSA MEMBERS). Includes on-snow and classroom clinic and participant materials (New USSA Level 100 Coach Manual, and more) as well as Level 100 on-line exam.  Lift tickets additional (most resorts offer discounted tickets for participants). Does not include First Aid or CPR course or certification costs.

The registration closing date is firm, NO registration will be taken after this date.  Registration closes at 5pm EASTERN time on the date listed.

2014-15 clinic registration will open on Friday August 1, 2014.  More clinics will be posted as they are confirmed.

About the Level 100 Alpine Ski Fundamentals Clinic

SCHEDULE: (may vary from site-to-site based on classroom availability and ski area operating hours, participants will receive final schedule via email)

8:15am Introduction and warm-up
9:00am-noon On-snow session - Stance & balance and pressure control
Noon-12:45pm Lunch break
12:45-3:30pm On-snow session - Balance progressions
3:30-4:30pm Break
4:30-7:00pm Indoor session
DAY TWO  
8:30am Meet, recap and warm-up
9:00am-12:30pm On-snow session - Pole usage, gliding, jumping/terrain, individual tasks
12:30-1:30pm Wrap-up and evaluations
